I think you are aware of the term ovarian cyst. It is any group of fluids, enclosed by a very slim barrier within an ovary.
Most of the ovarian cysts are harmless, but some of them can cause problems like bleeding and pain.

The most important thing here you need to consider is, you need to understand how these cysts form.
Normally every woman has two ovaries, one for storing the eggs and another for releasing the eggs. An ovarian cyst can vary in its size; it can be as small as a pea or as large as a grapefruit. Sometimes a cyst can also develop in a fallopian tube. Most of the cysts are found nearly in premenopausal women and for some extent they can be found in postmenopausal women.
Ovarian cyst can form at any age. Most often they occur in a woman’s pregnancy period. Ovarian cysts can be classified as noncancerous or cancerous. Not all of the ovarian tumors are cancers.

Cystadenomas are the cysts that occur from benign tumors and most commonly occur in older women. Sometimes, these ovarian cysts can be very large and cause pain.
Is there any relation between PCOS and ovarian cysts?
PCOS is a polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is a complex endocrine condition in which follicles develop. These follicles do not normally erupt and extrude an egg. Due to this condition, minute ovarian cysts stay below the surface and cause your ovary to become enlarged. The smaller cysts of PCOS do not cause any pain.
Does ovarian cyst cause ovarian cancer?
Most of the cysts do not cause any affect particularly those that occur during the reproductive years. Ovarian cancer symptom usually occur after menopause. If you don’t have any history of ovarian cancer or any type of cancer like breast, colon, and prostate cancer, then there will not be any genetic cause. If this is the case, then there is no need to worry.
Is there any chance of developing ovarian cyst after menopause?
Sonogram is suggested for every woman who has an ovarian cyst after menopause. Ovarian cyst developed after menopause is not a functional cyst. If you are a menopausal woman and have ovarian cyst, then you should get it checked with your gynecologist. Cyst after menopause can cause abnormal pain, changes in bladder operation, back pain, bloating and constipation.
