Today most of the people are suffering with the problem called astigmatism.

It is the most common vision difficulty. Most of you are not aware of this condition.

Sometimes it can accompany with nearsightedness or farsightedness.

The most general cause for this is due to irregularly shaped cornea.

Occasionally, it is also due to irregularly shaped lenses which are found behind the cornea. This condition is called as lenticular astigmatism.

Usually any kind of astigmatism can be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery. You cannot notice small amount of astigmatism, but you only experience slightly blurred vision. If you can’t correct your condition, it will cause severe headaches or eyestrains, and distort or blur your vision at all distances.

There will be a separation of 180 degrees between the two curves of the meridians in regular astigmatism. If you are affected with irregular astigmatism this separation is something other than 180 degrees apart.

Usually regular astigmatism can be corrected easily, but irregular astigmatism is complicated and more difficult to correct. Astigmatism is a hereditary disorder. Most of the children are born with an oblong cornea and the vision problem can get worse as the age increases.

So, what you do when your vision gets bad? You can get your eyes examined and prescription for eyeglasses or contacts, or you can also consider surgery. However, living with eyeglasses and lenses only makes you to see the things clearly, but don’t improve your eyesight.

But, the usage of eyeglasses and lenses can make your life difficult to lead. Sometimes you can feel nausea and experience random headaches from contacts or eyeglasses.

Depending on the type and severity of your astigmatism, there are methods to correct with refractive surgery.

Guidelines for eye exercise to reduce astigmatism:

  • Carefully read and understand all the steps of each exercise pattern.
  • Don’t use glasses or contact lenses unless you are instructed to use.
  • Practice the exercises in a place where light glare is not there.
  • When the exercise needs to close your eyes, do so gently.
  • Don’t strain your eyes while practicing the exercise. You will get better results if you don’t strain your eyes.
  • Give break to your eyes after practicing exercise. Also, practice the eye relaxation exercises to give relief to your eyes.

These guidelines will greatly help you relieving from astigmatism. It is beneficial if you take care of your problem during the initial stages.
