Sensible Drinking Older Adults May Survive Against Disabilities

According to new study, many healthy adults older than 50 years of age who consume alcohol moderately are less likely to develop physical disabilities that can make them lose independence.

The research shows that healthy adults who drink moderately or lightly have 25% lower risks of suffering with every day physical disabilities like walking, eating or doing personal chores.

On the other hand, individuals with binge drinking habit and abstainers are at high risk of suffering with disabilities that can restrict their everyday activities.

According to Dr. Arun S. Karlamangla, an associate professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, persons with light to moderate drinking habits need not worry about physical disability problem and in addition they can get good benefits from their moderate alcohol intake habit.

The study also warns older adults who have heavy drinking habits related to serious health problems.

For persons who participated in the survey reported that their overall health condition was fair or worse, alcohol consumption did not offered benefits at all. The study also suggests that people with bad health conditions should possibly avoid drinking at all circumstances.
