Sex Hormone Protein May Be Key Factor To Predict Type-2 Diabetes

A new study finds that a protein that regulates levels of sex hormones in our body may help to predict risk of developing type-2 diabetes.

Researchers suspect that this particular sex hormone protein, called sex hormone-binding globulin, may also play a role in developing type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Simin Liu, lead researcher, professor and director of the Center for Metabolic Disease Prevention in the School of Public Health at the University of California Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine, says, “Basically, we have identified plasma SHBG as a strong and significant marker for type 2 diabetes development in initially healthy men and women.”

The findings suggest that low levels of sex hormone protein are significant predictor for risk of developing type-2 diabetes.
