It is a fact that women who consume calcium pills and also a high calcium diet that adds up to 1400 milligrams in a day are twice as likely to die from a heart or cardiovascular condition than those who don’t.

Calcium supplements are generally consumed in the case of old age women and even men because they want to prevent bone loss.

But a recent study has shown that high dietary intake of calcium or consumption of increased calcium supplements may not improve overall cardiovascular health but in fact this may increase the heart disease risks and may even cause death in extreme cases.

A study had been conducted to prove these findings and data collected from over 61000 women was analyzed. It was found that nearly 12000 women died in a period of 19 years, almost 4000 were found to be suffering from cardiovascular diseases which are almost impossible to cure, about 1900 women were dying from heart disease and another 1100 women were dying from stroke. The highest risk of heart conditions were for those who were consuming more than 1400 milligrams of calcium per day.

Men and Calcium Supplement Risks

A research was conducted on over 388229 middle aged adults between 50 and 71 years of age in the US and what was found was shocking. These participants were monitored for a period of 12 years. Out of these participants, 50% of the men were taking calcium supplements and multi vitamins which contained calcium. Out of these nearly 12000 people died of one or the other kind of a heart disease. What scientists found out was that males who took at least 1000 milligrams of calcium content every day had about 20% higher chance of dying due to a heart related problem.
