Are you experiencing a red or blood shot eye condition? There are many reasons due to which this can be caused. Infact there are several diseases which cause reddening of the eyes and some of these diseases include conjunctivitis, glaucoma, Blepharitis, Uveitis etc. In some cases the red eye condition may be temporary and would disappear in some time but if you have had a red eye for a long time then you may be attacked by a serious condition. The following are a few red eye diseases symptoms which can be referred to for help:
Blurry vision is one of the main and common symptoms of a disease which causes the eye to become bloodshot. Whenever a red eye disease attacks you, it may leave you with a blurred or obstructed vision. Health of an eye is often checked by checking whether the patient has a clear vision or not.
If you are suffering from conjunctivitis, then it may cause you scratchiness of the eye and even mild irritation but if you are experiencing severe pain in your eye then it may be a symptom of a red eye disease such as corneal ulcer, keratitis, acute open angle glaucoma or iridocyclitis. The condition of severe pain must be treated or evaluated as soon as possible to avoid any further complications.
Another symptom or sign of a bloodshot eye condition is extreme sensitivity to light which is more commonly known as Photophobia. This sign may indicate the occurrence of a red eye disease called Iritis. Iritis is an inflammatory disease which occurs in the eye and in which the ciliary muscle get inflamed.
Colored halos is a sign that you are suffering from a reddened eye disorder called corneal edema or even acute open angle glaucoma. In this condition, halos are observed around the lights and these are caused by a certain disruption or disorder in the optical system of the eye/eyes. The cornea of the eye tends to get thicker than normal which is caused due to the swelling. This thickness of the cornea causes clouding and this in turn results in scattering of the light or halos.
If you have been experiencing any of the above given signs or symptoms along with the redness of the eye/eyes, then it is important to seek medical consultation as soon as possible. You must get rid of an eye disease at the earliest.
