Tips for a Healthier Smile

A great smile is a healthy smile. There’s nothing worse than yellow teeth, stained teeth or- worst of all- missing teeth! If you’re less than confident about your smile, don’t worry, it’s as simple as sticking to a dental hygiene routine. Alternatively there a procedures which can eradicate some of your issues such as root canal procedures, tooth removal and it may even be worth considering dentures.

Your routine should consist of brushing twice a day and flossing twice a day. An unbelievable amount of people don’t floss their teeth at all, but dentists are now advising that it is even more important than brushing! Flossing prevents gum disease which can not only cause your teeth to fall out, but incredibly, an infection in your mouth increases the risk of other serious illnesses like strokes, heart disease and mouth cancer.

Some people are put off from using dental floss because their gums bleed when they do it. If you haven’t been flossing normally then a bit of bleeding is normal at first. If you keep flossing your gums will be healthier and the bleeding will stop.

Unless you stop flossing, in which case the bleeding will start again next time you start flossing again! (Even though flossing can cause bleeding, you should always go to the dentist’s if you experience bleeding just to be on the safe side.)

Brushing and flossing are great, but there’s only so much you can do at home. It’s important to have regular check-ups with your dentist – it’s recommended that you see your dentist once every six months.

As well as regular check-ups, you should always go to the dentist if you have any concerns with your teeth. Dental problems like abscesses, cavities and sensitive teeth will only get worse and can be difficult to treat the longer you leave them, so make an appointment as soon as the problem starts!
