Know How to Stop Twitching Eyes and its Treatment

Everyone has probably experienced this annoying non-stop flickering eyelid sensation; its involuntary and quite disturbing. It can continue for several hours or can stop after a few flickers. Also known as myokymia, eye twitching is nothing but uncontrolled and continuous muscle contraction that surrounds the eye and eyelids.

1. With the above mentioned list of triggers, you must have already understood what to avoid in order to stop eye twitching. Thus, give your eyes a cool atmosphere and let it rest in between work.

2. Practice an easy eye exercise – close your eyes and massage your eye lids with your index finger and blink them consciously hard several times. Your blinking must have stopped; if not then wipe your eyes with a soft cloth soaked in cold water. Cucumber slices on eye lids also give a cool and relaxing effect to the eyes.

3. With excessive eye twitching over the weeks, your ophthalmologist will prescribe a local botox injection; if this too does not work then strong eye drops and surgery will be the next step.

Eye Exercises to Stop Twitching

  • Blink your eyes very hard and close them as tightly as possible. Squeeze them with your hands and open them suddenly really wide.  Keep doing this exercise until your eyes start producing tears. However, if the twitching gets worse or you experience pain, then stop this immediately.
  • Take your middle fingers and lightly massage the lower parts of your eyelids in a circular motion. Clean your hands well before performing this to prevent infection.
  • Blink your eyes continuously for 15 seconds – lightly and with uniform speed. The blinking should involve all the eye muscles that will lubricate and cleanse the eye balls.
