Young adults are using cholesterol drugs due to their unhealthy lifestyle. The unhealthy lifestyle includes smoking, drinking alcohol, and being sedentary. Being sedentary makes you obese. The workplace environment makes you sedentary.

As now-a-days, everyone works in front of computers, there is no physical work done by the body. During break hours, almost everyone takes junk and fast foods. These junk foods lead to obesity. Obesity is the risk factor of high blood pressure.

High cholesterol can result from diet with saturated fats, lack of exercise, being overweight, and drinking more than the recommended alcohol.

High cholesterol levels are associated with heart disease. High cholesterol causes blood vessels to become narrow with fatty deposits called plaques. This can result in strokes, heart attacks and blood vessel problems.

The couple in satisfying relationships is less likely to have the risk of heart problems than in unsatisfied relationships.

The stress that comes from unhappy marriage slows the blood protein production that is important for healing wounds.

Couples in unhappy marriage are stressed and therefore their blood pressure increases.

The stress hormone makes it harder for insulin process, putting in diabetes risk, which in turn becomes a risk factor for heart attacks.

According to the researchers, men and women who are in bad marriages suffer from increased levels of stress throughout the day at work place and at home.

Due to increased stress, they suffer from high blood pressure, which can raise the risk of heart failure or stroke.

Study: Obese Women Should Lose Weight If Pregnant

Wednesday 3 October 2007

GERD Linked To Obesity In Females

Monday 17 September 2007
A group of scientists recently discovered an association between being overweight and a disease called gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) in women.

Overweight and obesity are risk factors for GERD in women and not so much in men. GERD is a disease with chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. Heartburn (burning discomfort behind the breastbone) is the major symptom of GERD because the gastric acid gets into esophagus.

GERD or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease is a condition when stomach acid seeps into the esophagus. Esophagus is a tube which leads from throat to the stomach and causes heartburn symptoms, bitter taste in the mouth and regurgitation.

If you eat highly acidic foods like tomato sauces, fatty foods, fried foods, your stomach has to process overabundance of acid. Too much acid pushes back through a valve between stomach and esophagus called lower esophageal spinchter (LES).

Antioxidants: Preventing Diseases, Naturally

Saturday 8 September 2007

When it comes to boosting antioxidant intake, recent research indicates there’s little benefit from taking diet supplements. A better way, according to a report in the September issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter, is eating a diet rich in antioxidant-containing foods. For related information on anti-oxidants, visit:

Antioxidants are substances that reduce, neutralize and prevent the damage done to your body by free radicals. Free radicals are electrons that do not attach to atoms. Free radicals are formed by process of oxidation and this process occurs due to normal metabolic process and exposure to everyday environment.

Breathing, eating and exposure to sun contribute to process of oxidation and free radical formation and the damage is caused to the cells of your bodies. The damage can be of any type like bone loss, weakening of joints and connective tissues, immune system decline and visible effects of aging.

The free radicals can also cause damage to the brain’s nerve cells, which can cause Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, joint inflammation leading to arthritis and increased risk to heart disease.

Mom’s Obesity May Up Risk Of Birth Defects

Tuesday 14 August 2007

Women who are obese before pregnancy may have a higher risk of giving birth to a baby with major birth defects, new research suggests.

If pregnant women are obese, they face a risk of having babies with birth defects than women who are with a healthy weight. If a pregnant woman is obese, she has to face many health complications like premature delivery, seizures, and fetal death.

Prenatal care is important because it is complicated as uterine size measurement and ultrasound test can be more difficult.

Women who are obese before pregnancy face a higher risk of having babies with a variety of birth defects than women with a healthy weight, a new study suggests. The results involving nearly 15,000 women from eight states found abnormalities of the spine, heart, arms, legs and abdomen, building on previous research that showed heart and spine defects.

The greatest risk was for spina bifida.Obese women faced double the risk of having babies with spina bifida than women of healthy weight. With spina bifida, the most common disabling birth defect in the United States, the spinal column fails to close properly. That often leads to leg paralysis, learning difficulties and other serious problems.
