respiratory therapyRespiratory therapy gives care for patients, who are having deficiencies and abnormalities related to pulmonary and cardiopulmonary system.

Respiratory therapy contains therapeutic use of medical gases with administrative apparatus, humidification, aerosols, environmental control systems, ventilatory support, respiratory rehabilitation, bronchopulmonary drainage, maintenance of natural, artificial, and mechanical airways, and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Exercise is a type of respiratory therapy, which helps to improve the lung function.

Frequent use of household cleaning sprays such as washing powders, liquid cleaning powders, ammonia, bleaches, solvents, stain removers, furniture sprays, ironing sprays, air-refreshing sprays are significant risk factors of respiratory illnesses.

Diseases For Which Respiratory Therapy Is Given!

Respiratory therapy will be given to the patients who are suffering from respiratory and cardiopulmonary illnesses such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory insufficiency, lung disease, status asthmaticus, hypothermia, bronchopulmonary diseases (bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary abscess, cystic fibrosis), respiratory failure, and cardiac failure.

Respiratory Therapy - Oxygen Inhalation Therapy:

Radiation Therapy To Kill Cancer Cells And Shrink Tumors!

Saturday 24 November 2007

radiation therapyHigh energy rays are used in radiation therapy to stop cancer cells from growing and dividing.

Radiation therapy is used to treat cancer because cancer cells grow and divide more rapidly than normal cells around them.

Radiation therapy for breast cancer:

Radiation therapy is used to destroy breast cancer cells which are remaining after the surgery in the chest wall, breast, or axilla area.

Sometimes, the therapy is used before surgery to shrink the tumor size. If your breast cancer is in early stage, breast conserving therapy (BCT) is used.

Breast lump (lumpectomy) and surrounding margin of normal breast tissue are surgically removed with breast conserving therapy. Radiation therapy is given for at least six to seven weeks after BCT.

Radiation treatment begins one month after surgery because the breast tissue need time to heal. Radiation therapy is also recommended for women after mastectomy to destroy remaining cancer cells.

Radiation therapy for prostate cancer:

Radiation therapy is used as an initial treatment for prostate cancer.

External beam radiation therapy: The tumor cells are located with the help of CT scans and MRIs and x-rays are targeted on those areas. Prostate tumors are located exactly with 3D conformal radiotherapy so that the highest radiation dose can reach the cancer cells within the gland.

Chemotherapy To Kill Or Damage Cancer Cells In The Body!

Thursday 4 October 2007

chemotherapyChemotherapy travels in your blood stream and can reach cancer cells that may have not been removed by surgery in distant organs.

Chemotherapy, a non-surgical treatment, refers to medications used in treating cancer.

Chemotherapy is used to breast cancer in three ways: as a main treatment for advanced cancers, as adjuvant therapy to prevent recurrence and to relieve from cancer symptoms that have spread.

Cancers develop away from original tumors, called as metastases.

These tiny metastases cannot be detected even with scans and blood tests. Therefore, chemotherapy is used to reduce the number of recurrences in women who are cured after the diagnosis of breast cancer. Whether breast cancer chemotherapy is suitable for you depends on the risk which is determined by your doctor and reports.

Eliminating Breast cancer tumors with Roche’s Herceptin Combined With Chemotherapy Than Chemotherapy Alone:

Roche’s Herceptin drug combined with chemotherapy is three times more effective in eradicating tumors in women with inflammatory breast cancer than chemotherapy alone.

FDA has approved Herceptin drug for advanced HER2-positive cancer treatment that has spread away from the breast. According to the new research, women who received Herceptin and chemotherapy combination noticed complete disappearance of the tumors from breast, compared in women who received chemotherapy alone.

Hormone Replacement Therapy For Menopausal, Premenopausal And Postmenopausal Symptoms!

Thursday 6 September 2007

hormone replacement therapyAre you having any of menopausal, premenopausal or postmenopausal symptoms?

Here is a system of medical treatment called hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopausal, premenopausal and postmenopausal women.

It helps to reduce the pain and health issues which are due to the reduced circulating estrogen and progesterone hormones.

In the United States alone, more than 10 million people are taking hormone replacement therapy.

Hormone replacement therapy involves a series of drugs intended to artificially improve hormone levels. The hormones which need to be boosted include estrogen, progesterone and sometimes testosterone.

Estrogen and progesterone are the hormones which are produced in the ovaries during a woman’s reproductive life. During the menopausal state, the levels of these hormones will dramatically fall down. Testosterone can be produced in adrenal glands and ovaries.

Not only hormone replacement therapy helps to relieve the problems like hot flashes, night sweats, urinary symptoms and vaginal dryness, but also it protects you against several postmenopausal conditions, such as osteoporosis and heart disease. You might take HRT for short-term and the duration is in between six months and five years.
