Suffering From Persistent Hives? Get Thorough Medical Evaluation To Know The Triggering Substances!

Monday 28 January 2008

hives1Approximately 20% of the people will get hives.

Unless there are recurring problems with hives, there is no need to worry about hives. Hives is medically known as urticaria.

Hives are formed by histamines and other compounds released from mast cells.

These histamines, which are released from the mast cells, cause the leaking of the fluid from the blood vessels.

This leakage leads to swelling of the skin. Hives can form anywhere in the body, but usually in the palms and soles of the feet.

There are different types of hives, which include:

Acute:Acute urticaria (hives) is sometimes due to allergies. They generally show up in a few minutes after exposure to any allergen and lasts for a few hours to few weeks.

The common causes of acute urticaria include consumption of shellfish, eggs, fish, nuts, dye, derivatives of acids, etc., and medicines such as Amaryl, aspirin, penicillin, sulfonamides, etc. Bee stings can also cause hives.

Chronic: Chronic urticaria mostly is due to autoimmune disease or related to other autoimmune conditions such as thyroid disease.

  • Sun exposure
  • Hot weather
  • Wind
  • Cold weather
  • Humidity

Weather changes, mainly the sun and hot humid weathers can cause rosacea to flare up and become extremely severe.

Rosacea can strike at any age:

Previously it was thought that rosacea can occur during the age of 30-40 years. But according to the recent study, 39 percent of the rosacea patients can develop the condition after 50 and 17 percent before 30.

This condition mostly affects the face. Often it starts as a blush on the nose, chin and cheeks. The blush can be more or less permanent and tiny webs of blood vessels sprout in those areas. In addition to this condition, tiny and pimple like bumps comes out on the affected skin.

Red Spots And Hard Pimples With Rosacea!

Saturday 29 December 2007

rosaceaEver one wants a glowing and radiant skin.

Rosacea is a skin disease that can disfigure your skin.

It can cause redness and hard pimples.

At times, it can be misunderstood as acne or sun burns.

Do drinking alcoholic beverages cause rosacea?

In some cases intake of alcohol increases the affect but does not continue and implement others, and no specific reason to prove this.

This is a myth that drinking alcohol causes rosacea. But the main reason behind this is over exposure of your skin to sun light.

  • Some times over reaction of the blood vessels in the face
  • Genetic factors
  • The sun containing UV radiation heat up the skin and cooks the “collagen and elastin” (fibrous proteins in skin).
  • The over exposure to UV cause broken capillaries.
  • UV rays which are short in length hit the skin surface and yields redness and burning.

Rosacea also affects eyes, but the effect is not threatening. How ever they can appear around the borders of eyes and eyelids and cause inflammation.

Are white-skinned the preys of rosacea?

There are no particular reasons that can prove the above statement, but rosacea is usually seen in white and light skinned women and men rather than brown and dark skinned people.

Predict The Effects Of Shingles To Avoid Post-Hepatic Neuralgia!

Saturday 8 December 2007

shinglesShingles is caused by the reactivation of varicella zoster virus in the spinal cord causing severe pain and rash.

People usually develop chicken pox during childhood or even when they grow older.

Varicella zoster is a herpes-type virus that causes chicken pox.

After appropriate treatment of chicken pox, the varicella zoster virus moves from the skin along the nerves and settles in the area of dorsal root ganglia (ganglion of the posterior root of spinal segmental nerve).

The virus will remain there for many years in an inactivate state until the immune system works well. When the immune system weakens or lowered (such as AIDS, cancer, etc that lowers the immune system), the varicella zoster virus will be activated again.

The virus that is activated starts to multiply within the dorsal root ganglia causing swelling and damage to the nerves of dorsal root ganglia. This damage causes severe pain, swelling, and rash on the skin of shingles.

The main symptom of shingles is over sensitivity and burning sensation. First, you will see red spots or reddened skin in the affected areas. These red spots will then turn into small blisters, which after a few days dry up leaving small pockmarks on the area.

Psoriasis Associated With Serious Cardiovascular Disease!

Monday 29 October 2007

psoriasisPsoriasis is a skin condition characterized by red, thick scaly plaques that itch and cause bleeding sometimes with discomfort and emotional stress for patients.

In addition to dealing with the symptoms of psoriasis, a new research suggested a link between psoriasis and a serious medical condition.

The medical condition that is associated with psoriasis is heart disease.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease which occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s own cells. This results in large, itchy patches on the surface of the skin.

Effects of psoriasis can go skin deep causing inflammation throughout the body. Some of the abnormalities of the immune system that cause psoriasis also influence heart disease. Inflammation is a natural response produced by the body whenever immune system is at work fighting an infection.

As psoriasis causes chronic inflammation, it can adversely affect heart and blood vessels. Immune activity is important for establishing atherosclerosis or blockage of arteries and promoting them to rupture into a heart attack.

People with psoriasis have a tendency to be obese, smoke, have hypertension and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Psoriasis patients should visit the physician and screened for cardiovascular risk factors.

The Royal College of Physicians and British Association of Dermatologists advised holidaymakers to look for changes to their skin on return from holiday, particularly the growth of new moles or changes to existing moles. Being alert can save lives, as these changes can be signs of skin cancer, and patients have a better chance of being treated successfully if melanomas are found early. For information on moles and its relation to melanoma, visit:http://www.medicalnewstoday.com

Moles are the pigmented cells that appear as small, dark brown spots on your face, torso, arms and legs. But, moles can develop anywhere including your scalp, between your fingers and toes, and under your armpits.

New moles can appear in the adulthood and some moles can disappear as you age. Majority of moles are harmless, but some moles can become cancerous. When you return from holiday, you have to observe the changes in the skin, particularly the growth of new moles, change in color or size.

Many people are not exposed to sun most of the time. But, when you are on holiday trip, you are at more risk of developing melanoma, a skin cancer, because of exposure to sun all the time. Many people take sunbath and spend most of the time near beaches, which is the main cause for the occurrence of moles.
